The Appleton Education Foundation board of directors recently approved 19 grants totaling more than $17,300 to creatively enhance education for students in the Appleton Area School District.
All funding is from the Appleton Education Foundation Fund, unless otherwise noted.
Appleton Area School District
- $675 to enable access for AASD girls to attend Smart Girls Rock to learn about STEAM careers through hands-on activities and mentorship from professional women (Funding provided by the Dianne Catlin Lang STEM Innovators & Girls Leadership Fund within AEF.)
Appleton East High School
- $2,799.98 to expand costuming skills by giving crew members the opportunity to work with sewing machines. (Funding provided by the Vira and Alan Stoner Education Fund within AEF.)
- $200 to purchase materials for students to create statement art to help raise awareness of global human rights violations. (Funding provided by the Vira and Alan Stoner Education Fund within AEF.)
- $2,000 to support bringing educator, author, and speaker, Dave Stuart Jr., to Appleton East for a live PD session. Stuart will share strategies from his book “The Will to Learn”.
Appleton West High School
- $500 to support the purchase of six DECA blazers students are required to wear when attending the International Career Development Conference. (Funding provided by the Erik J. Lang Business Education Fund within AEF.)
- $1,200 to support start-up expenses of a Pickleball Club so students can engage in the rapidly growing sport.
Appleton North High School
- $750 to help fund instruments, instruction books, and carrying cases students can check-out from the LMC as a way to promote the mental health benefits of music. (Funding provided by the Gruner Family Community Mental Wellness Fund within AEF.)
James Madison Middle School
- $300 to equip a special education makerspace with hands-on learning opportunities that both support the STEM curriculum and encourage self-expression. (Funding provided by Betsy Melzer Endowment Fund within AEF.)
Edna Ferber Elementary School
- $377 for materials that will allow second graders to build and decorate birdhouses to showcase their knowledge of bird habitats. (Funding provided by the Ann Moe Art Appreciation Fund within AEF.)
Fox River Academy
- $500 to purchase materials that will allow students to plan, prep, and paint curriculum-themed murals on garage doors. (Funding provided by the Vira and Alan Stoner Education Fund within AEF.)
Horizons Elementary School
- $300 to provide special cue cards to help students with speech sound disorders and enhance their communication skills.
Houdini Elementary School
- $350 to purchase sorting and recognition tools that will help students in Special Education classes improve their fine motor skills.
Huntley Elementary School
- $1,322.53 to purchase visual communication aids throughout the school. This signage will create a more inclusive learning environment for all students regardless of their communication modality. (Funding provided by Betsy Melzer Endowment Fund within AEF.)
Jefferson Elementary School
- $485 to support dramatic play into social skills instruction for special education students.
Kaleidoscope Academy
- $1,070.56 to support start-up expenses for a new outdoor education program aimed at providing hands-on learning and life-long lessons. (Funding provided by the Vira and Alan Stoner Education Fund within AEF.)
- $1,630 to implement a walking program to promote physical and mental health. (Funding provided by the Gruner Family Community Mental Wellness Fund within AEF.)
Richmond Elementary School
- $579 to fund a Mathemagical Membership, enabling continued learning, support, and resources for math neuroscience, learning disabilities, and dyscalculia.
- $500 to purchase latex-free Wubble bubble balls for physical education classes.
Stephen Foster Elementary Charter
- $1,800 to supply Kindergarten Weekend Bags to encourage family engagement and foster a love for reading. (Funding provided by John Mielke and Sally Morey Mielke Education Fund within AEF.)
