Last week, the Appleton Education Foundation board of directors approved 12 grants totaling more than $10,850 to strengthen and enhance education for students in the Appleton Area School District.
All funding is from the Appleton Education Foundation Fund, unless otherwise noted.
Appleton Area School District
- $1,000 to enable 5th-grade students to explore the earth’s movement around the sun with Solarcan Pucks. (Funding provided by the Stan and Phyllis Thatcher Family Fund for STEM and the Dianne Catlin Lang STEM Innovators & Girls Leadership Fund within AEF.)
- $500 to support the use of the Everyday Speech curriculum, equipping specialists to teach social-emotional and communication skills. (Funding provided by the Betsy Melzer Endowment Fund within AEF.)
- $250 to fund the keynote speaker for the second annual “Unity through Expression” event/art showcase highlighting the importance of Black History.
James Madison Middle School
- $350 towards filament for 3-D printers, enabling students to bring their TinkerCad and OnShape projects to life. (Funding provided by the Forrest and Roberta Sprowl Fund within AEF.)
Kaleidoscope Academy
- $500 to purchase IXL, a personalized math learning program that meets students at their individual levels.
Appleton Bilingual School
- $475.15 to purchase letter manipulatives to help students engage with letters and sounds.
Classical School
- $1,700 towards the construction of a Gaga Ball pit, which will provide 487 students with an inclusive space for active play, teamwork, and fun.
Edna Ferber Elementary School
- $600 to help launch a new School Spirit Store, which will teach students entrepreneurship, marketing, and design skills. (Funding provided by the Erik J. Lang Business Education Fund within AEF.)
Franklin Elementary School
- $1,400 to support the Math Medley Family Night, which will foster collaboration among students, families, and staff. (Funding provided by the John Mielke and Sally Morey Mielke Education Fund within AEF and the Appleton Education Foundation Fund.)
- $299 to fund Generation Genius — an online resource that provides engaging science and math videos to help students learn STEM concepts. (Funding provided by the Dianne Catlin Lang STEM Innovators & Girls Leadership Fund within AEF.)
Janet Berry Elementary School
- $2,980 to fund adaptive playground equipment that will enhance recreational opportunities for students with developmental disabilities.
Ronald C. Dunlap Elementary School
- $800 to fund enhancements to Ivy’s Garden — a butterfly and vegetable garden on school grounds for continued student and community benefit.
