That’s right, Edison Elementary School – right here in Appleton – is up for a $25,000 grant from US Cellular, part of the company’s Calling All Communities Campaign!
Physical education teacher Chuck Heurkens is spearheading fundraising for the school’s proposed Wellness Room. This new room will benefit students, families and district staff. A partnership with UW-Oshkosh will provide student interns from the exercise and fitness studies area.
Wellness isn’t a new idea to Edison Elementary. The school has been awarded six Wisconsin School Health Awards and offers programs for students including after school martial arts, “Stay Fit Between the Holidays,” and “Run for Fun Club.”
As you can imagine, the Wellness Room does not have a small price tag.
The AEF awarded Edison Elementary a “Choose Your Focus” grant in spring 2013. Chuck and his colleagues continue to look for additional funders.
To learn why this Wellness Room is a great idea, watch the short video from students and staff at Edison: http://youtu.be/n3UYK_d0EG4.
Now, I ask you to do your part. Vote for Edison! It’s easy! Visit Calling All Communities and next to Edison Elementary School click “Vote Now.” You will have to enter your email address. You will then receive an email from US Cellular confirming your email. Only when you verify your email will your vote count. One vote per person is allowed.
Thank you for supporting wellness and education in our community!
P.S. Edison is currently in 1st place. Let’s keep ’em there!
