Ferber Elementary School second graders applied their knowledge of birds to bring learning to life by building and decorating birdhouses. They chose from nine birdhouse styles as they considered the size of the house and the opening for their feathered friends along with such details as perches.
Students demonstrated creativity and perseverance as they assembled and personalized their projects. Teacher Laura Skrypczak secured funding from the Appleton Education Foundation to support this experience. She said student excitement and teamwork made the project a success. “An added bonus is that some students actually hung their houses in their backyards, and a few attracted birds,” she said.
AEF awarded four grants totaling more than $3,000 to enhance education at Ferber in 2024.
