The AEF board of directors approved 14 grants totaling more than $13,000 in the second of four grant cycles during the 2022-23 school year.
Appleton East High School
$3,000 – to support a student-led community celebration for Black History Month
Appleton West High School
$1,316 – items to make a safe, welcoming, soothing space for a group of students with emotional and behavioral disabilities
Kaleidoscope Academy
$900 – to support KA Kitchen, a student-led organization that teaches culinary and teambuilding skills. Students direct a portion of profits to local nonprofits.
Madison Middle School
$500 – to create a classroom sensory space for students with intellectual disabilities
Wilson Middle School
$1,400 – support for three high-interest clubs
Edison Elementary School
$150 – for Girls Empowerment. Girls meet during recess to discuss self esteem, self confidence, friendship, and social media
Franklin, Johnston, Highlands & Edison elementary schools
$3,000 – materials to support social emotional development for early childhood students
Badger, Johnston & Jefferson elementary schools
$1,000 – support for an emotional literacy pilot program
Highlands Elementary School
$486 – kits to help fourth-grade students model multi-digit multiplication and division
Houdini Elementary School
$234 – to support additional progress monitoring for students receiving reading support
$650 – for books to support social emotional learning
Richmond Elementary School
$499 – materials for students to learn food groups and see how to create a healthy plate of food
