December is a wonderful time of year… especially if you can set aside the fact that single digit temps (below zero factoring in wind chill) can make you want to curl up in a blanket in front of a fire with a large mug of hot cocoa.
Early this week our board members are braving the elements to deliver grant checks to AASD educators. These surprise deliveries are a lot like Christmas.
Grant applicants completed their Christmas list/application and submitted it in early November. Since then they have been waiting. Waiting for a special delivery.
It doesn’t matter that the grant checks aren’t wrapped in beautiful, glittery paper with a bow. (Though that would be fun for next time!) The educators are ecstatic to be receiving the hand-delivered gift. The students in the classroom are excited because they know something great just happened for their teacher… and in turn, something great will probably happen for them, too!
Our board members often say delivering grants is the best part of being on the AEF board. Receiving hugs, seeing tears and smiles are all par for the course. Knowing that you are making a difference when you walk into that classroom with a check in-hand is the best reward of all.
Thank you to our donors who make granting possible! And, to the creative and dedicated AASD educators who make learning fun and engaging for all students!
The full list of grant recipients will be posted later this week.
